Hello everyone!
So sorry for the extremely late blog post, it turns out that I am not very good at posting once a week like I had said in the beginning, but oh well! the good thing is that I have now been on the Faroe Islands for 3 months, although it still feels like I arrived here yesterday, and that just proves how fast time fly's on by. Especially when your having good time.
In the beginning of October I had noticed the fall weather of the Islands were no joke. High winds and on and off again heavy rainfall, even some icy mornings that turned into a whole day, and unlike Eugene ( my home town) the whole city doesn't shut down or get a late start when there's some ice on the roads, or winds that feel like they could blow you over. There are some mornings where I would catch myself looking out my window to check out the weather outside, and thinking to myself " ha there's no way we'll have school, the weather is terrible" but to my disappointment we did have school. We ALWAYS have school, nothing stops the Faroese from their daily life, not even the extreme weather. One good thing that I have come to notice about the weather ( especially now that it's becoming winter) is the colder that it gets the more likely it is to get a glimpse of the aurora borealis. Yes I did get a chance to see the northern lights but just hardly, it wasn't bright enough to catch a picture of it. But even as faint as it was, I was still very excited to see it, it was amazing.
I'm always finding a way to keep myself busy, mostly by hanging out with friends. I find that I am hardly home and always out about with someone. The "teen life" here isn't that much different back home ( besides the fact that every 16 year old doesn't have a car or even has a license). But for the most part we do some of the same stuff. Movie nights, little dinner dates and just hanging out and talking. The friends that I have here I am very close with and I'm very lucky to have all of them in my life, they've my exchange life nothing but pure fun.
some photos...
In about mid October I traveled to the most northern village here on the islands called Viðareiði, to visit my friend Marike ( another exchange student who is from Germany). Viðareiði has the population of about 400 and has more sheep then residence. Its very small but very beautiful I really enjoyed my time there. I also got the chance to watch the sheep killing for the winter food. That wasn't too pretty, but still interesting see.
Pictures from and going to Viðareiði.
Halloween wasn't as busy at it usually is. Halloween is not celebrated in the islands, but there are some people that carve pumpkins and do some Halloween/fall festive decorations. On Halloween day I had helped my class carve pumpkins and I had made them all chocolate chip cookies that they all enjoyed very much.
That's all for now!
