ABOUT ROTARY
Rotary is made out of three parts. At the heart of Rotary are the Rotary clubs to bring together dedicated people to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action. Then there's Rotary International who support the Rotary clubs worldwide. After that there's the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Foundation uses generous donations to fund Rotary projects by the Rotarian's and partners in communities around the world. |

ABOUT MY EXCHANGE
My exchange year will officially start August 9th through early or mid July, 2014-2015. During those 11 months I will be living in a small down called Torshavn which is also the countries capital. The town has an estimate of a population of 17,624 people. I will be staying with three host families throughout my exchange. I will be staying 3-4 months with each host family that are all in the same town, and I will be attending the same school through out my stay as well. |
ABOUT THE ISLANDS
Location and size: The Faroe Islands lie at the heart of the Gulf Stream in the North Atlantic. The Islands are Northwest of Scotland and halfway between Iceland and Norway. The archipelago is composed of 18 islands covering 1399 km2 (545.3 sq miles). The Islands are 113 km (70 miles) long and 75 km ( 47 miles wide), also the Islands have 1100 km ( 68 miles) of coastline and no matter what you are always 3 miles or less from the ocean! Population: The over all population of the Fraoe Islands is 48,193 and the population Torshavn is 17,624. Torshavn is the smallest Capital in the world. Language Faroese is the national language of the Faroe Islandsand is rooted in Old Norse, but English is also known widely spoken especially with the younger generations. Government Since 1948 the Faroe Islands have been a self governing region of the Kingdom of Denmark. It has its own parliament and flag. |
